Adornments: The Maliseet decorated themselves with images and symbols from Mother Earth - animals, birds, fish, and even plants. They believed that the spirits of these elements protected them from potential danger. The spirits of fish, animals, and birds were often referred to as enteom or entotem meaning my guide, protector, or friend. As can be seen in this section of the web site, sometimes even rocks, shells, bones, and sticks made their way into these collections.
