Tools of Survival: Maliseet tools were made from natural material gathered from their traditional territory. Objects were often made from plants, animal skins, stones, bones, and feathers and were held together with sinew, roots, and resin. Hunters, fishers, and gatherers learned and passed on the skills to make the tools for their way of life. Skill was needed to assemble, cut, gather, select, decorate, design, and utilize their tools. Tools used by the Maliseet people for daily survival include bows and arrows, fishing spears, knives, and stone axes. These, and others, can be seen below.
