Elizabeth
Wood was born in Orillia, Ontario and studied under Emanuel Hahn at
the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. In 1924, she finished her
studies there and went to New York to study with Robert Laurent. This
took place at the Art Students League. She was very successful and
influential, and Hahn admired her work greatly. Part of her success included a shared first prize
for sculpture at the Willingdor Arts Competition in 1929. She taught
for many years at the Central Technical School, in Toronto, and was a
member of the ARCA in 1930 and the RCA in 1948. Her work is
displayed in many galleries including the
AGO.
