The Prairies

The Prairies consist of the modern provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. Common to this vast and open land is rich soil, massive farms, large oil fields, wide valleys, wildlife, cold winters and dry summers. The colours of the land often blend together, although Canadian artists have also depicted the vividness of the dark soils, the golden wheat, the yellow mustard seed, and the blue skies on many occasions. The simple beauty of the prairies is represented in many paintings!
