The Neo-Classical
Tour
This style reached its peak
in the late 18th century. It was known as the 'true style' of art. Its
tone involved a particular frame of mind:
simplicity and moralism served as a reaction against the sensuality that
had been popular in previous times. Gone were the romantic figures and
luxurious themes, and in came strong virtues, self-sacrifice and simplicity. The Neo-classical revolution in art was part of the revolution against individual values.
