The Modernist Tour
This term covers a lot of styles in 20th century painting. It was
chararacterized by relaxing of the rules previously closely
followed by artists. No longer was there a framework for artists to
follow. Colour scheme, style, subject and perspective were all left up to
the individual painter. The word that probably best describes this style is
'abstract' - let loose, the imagination of the artists explored not only
themes but also concepts never previously encountered in art.
