Old Crow - Caribou: Art and Jewellery

Art and Jewellery

The parts of the caribou that we use for art and jewellery are: the skin, the hair, antlers, and the bones. We make hair barretts, earrings, and belts out of the skin. We use the antlers to make gun racks, key chains, and tools. The caribou hair is also used to do caribou hair tufting, where the hairs are pulled through the skin to make floral or other designs. You can also make a ball to play games with; this ball is made of the caribou skin and hair. We use the bones to make various traditional tools. We sometimes make rings out of the caribou horns.
