Old Crow - Caribou: Clothing and Shelter

[Digital Collections Website]

The caribou skin can be tanned and people can make clothes from this skin, such as: mukluks, moccasins, parkas, coats, mitts, gloves, baby straps, belts, and other items.

We also make sinew which is long threads made out of the caribou. We use sinew as thread to sew the clothes together because it is very tough and strong.

We use the caribou hide, with the hair left on, for a bed because it keeps you warm.
