Nellie McClung
While known primarily for her participation in the "Persons" case of 1928, Nellie McClung was also a popular writer who spent much of her life in Alberta. Born in Ontario in 1873, Nellie Letitia Mooney moved to Manitoba in 1880.
In 1908, she published her first novel, Sowing Seeds in Danny. She was already a nationally recognized feminist activist and writer when she moved to Alberta in 1914, and published four novels while living in the province:
Three Times and Out (1918), Purple Springs (1921), When Christmas Crossed the Peace (1923), and
Painted Fires (1925). In 1932, McClung moved to British Columbia.
