P'egp'íg'7lha Elders Council


We RESPECT the Creator, Mother Earth, ourselves, all living creatures, our grandfathers, our grandmothers, and pass this value and the recognition that we are equal onto our children.

The Elders Council provides guidance to the P'egp'íg'7lha and advises the political leadership on major decisions relating or effecting the health and well being of the people and the community as a whole.

The Elders are the keeper of the St'át'imc language, culture, history and traditional ways and have the responsibility of passing on their cultural knowledge to present and future generations.

The Elders Council is responsible for ensuring justice and fairness in all community dealings, this including facilitating, mediating and arbitrating disputes that arise amongst individuals and families.

The Elders Council will hold Veto powers over any decisions of the Councils.

The Elders Council will select its spokesperson every four years.

The Elders Council spokesperson will hold the title of Grand chief.

The Elders Council will meet with the Traditional Council no less than four times each year, once per season.
