MYSTERY OF THE OLD SUITCASE

LETTER # 2

Royal City
Thursday, 11:00 am. 1876

My dearest Carrie,

I shall have a few minutes at Yale before starting for Boston Bar in which to scribble a few lines..... we have had a terrible passage and consequently time enough for thought -- most of which had been on you and dear chicks. It was a very great duty to me that Frank is not learning -- it is our greatest duty at present to forearm him -- do dear one, devote at least one hour to him every morning, let him read 15 or 20 minutes in the evening... when I come back we must get some person to take him in hand.....

Dear Pop, it is so sad to see her suffer -- I have not liked her appearance of late -- could not you take the stay to Fraser... to have it adjusted and enlarged.

Peter O'Reilly
