Introduction to

Instructor's Guide



CONCEPT:
A participatory, in-school historical education program designed to teach grades three to six about the history of the O'Reilly family and Point Ellice House through the use of objects, documents and photographs. The program provides both an in depth experience of the O'Reilly family, and a broader knowledge of 19th century upper class Victorian life in British Columbia.

  1. METHODOLOGY:
    (a) To allow students to discover history and introduce them to historical methodology through examining replica artifacts; and by answering questions based on chronology, context and comparison.

    (b) By examining the objects to learn about the O'Reilly family members and their life as one of the leading families of Victoria's colonial community.
