Arthur "Jack" O'Reilly


Born April 4 1873, at Point Ellice and died August 1, 1946 from a coronary occulsion. He was buried at Ross Bay cemetery, Victoria, B. C.

He was educated from the age of 9 in England at Montague House Folkestone and Puingham school. He returned to Victoria at 18 years to apprentice to the law firm Drake Jackson and Helmcken. In 1898 he was sworn in as barrister and solicitor, working for the same firm.

During World War I Arthur served as major in the Army Air Service after being in the Royal Navy. In January 28, 1914, he married Mary Beresford Windham at St. Peters church, Reymerston, Norfolk, England and together they had one son named John.

Arthur was very fond of tennis, golf, skating, polo, soccer, and rugby. From 1902 to 1904 he won the croquet tournament in Vancouver. He also like fishing, hunting, picnics, the theater and greenhouse gardening. The greenhouse was built for him.

Like his brother, he was involved in electioneering for the Conservative party.
