Plast in Montreal
Plast was established in Montreal in 1948
shortly after the arrival of
Ukrainian Displaced Persons from Europe. The first Branch meeting was held
in 1948. Among the early problems were the distances travelled to attend
meetings and the long winters. In 1954 the first Plast building was acquired
with the help of the local Ukrainian community. Another building was purchased
in 1967. The first Camps were held on Ukrainian church property and in
1960 Plast purchased Baturyn. The year 1967 brought many Plast members
from across Canada to Baturyn and to the Montreal Expo. Baturyn also serves
as an annual Camp to Plast Branches from Montreal, Toronto and the United
States. |
