Sa Ga Yeath Qua Tow, also known as Brant, was one of four Iroquois who went to England in 1710 top ask for military assistance against the French and to request religious missionaries. They created a great sensation and became known as the Four Indian Kings. During their visit, Queen Anne commissioned portraits of native North Americans done by a European artist and together they represent one of the great treasures of the National Archives of Canada which acquired all four of the paintings, including this one, with the assistance of a special grant from the Government of Canada in 1977.
