Louis-Hippolyte LaFontaine (1807-1864), jurist, member of the Legislative Assembly, Patriote, Prime Minister and Attorney General for Lower Canada under the Act of Union and Chief Justice of Lower Canada, was imprisoned on November 4, 1838, and freed without trial on December 13.
