Wolfred Nelson (1792-1863), doctor and member of the Legislative Assembly, led the Patriotes to victory at Saint-Denis, on November 23, 1837. He was condemned to exile after being arrested while attempting to flee to the U.S. on December 13, 1837. He left for Bermuda on July 3, 1838, and returned to Canada in 1842.
