The Copper

The songs, dances and masks presented, the number of gifts given away, and the richness of the feasts added to the prestige of the person holding the potlatch and made him an important person in his community.

Another way  for a person to Chief with Copper show how important and powerful he was, was to display a Copper at the potlatch.

Coppers were very important status symbols to the Kwakwaka’wakw. You can learn more about Coppers and make your own status symbol in our Copper Game.
