Lesson Focus:
This lesson investigates how events are remembered by various
cultures. These days, the western method of written history is
generally observed, but what if you were in a culture that did
not write down your history?
Learning Outcome:
It is expected that students will identify
and clarify a problem, issue or inquiry.
Lesson Plan:
Break class into small groups and have each group explore the
question : how would you make sure that major events were
remembered though the generations, if you could not write them
down? Have each group devise a way to keep major events in
memory and present it to the class. Discuss advantages and
disadvantages of this method (ie. advantage: closeness of
community, disadvantage: accuracy).
