Sunshine Coast Trail

An explosion of trail building has occurred in the rolling hills sloping towards the stunning coastal mountain ranges that bracket Powell River to the east. In particular the construction of the Sunshine Coast Trail, a 180 km trail from Saltery Bay in the south to Sarah Point, land’s end in the north has been undertaken by the Powell River Parks and Wilderness Society (PRPAWS).

Trail Map

There are frequent access points which allow hikers to design their own treks, depending on the time available. The trails wind through semi-alpine areas, old growth forests, along ridges, bluffs, lakeshores and through canyons. There are a few bed and breakfasts along the route and a hostel that can offer a respite from the rigors of your adventure!

As of the fall of 1997, nearly 90 kilometers are ready for hiking. While not all sections have finished campsites, there are enough so that, with some planning, hiking can be done without much inconvenience. The next 65 kilometers have also been connected, although the kilometer markers are not in place and campsites are almost nonexistent.

The following guide is for the use of the 90 km now in place.
