The former is now Honourable Mr. Justice Higgins whose splendid record, boldly
put, is somewhat as follows:
Pond up to 1899;
1899 Victoria's, champions, Natives vs. Canadians;
1900 Vics, champs;
1901 Vics, champs, City against North Sydney;
1904 Vics;
Official referee and all the position meant to the game from 1899 almost to the War years;
Secretary Treasurer of the Association 1903, 1904, President 1906 to 1927 (22 years) when he was elevated to the bench. Honorary President from 1928 to the present day.
The writer will not attempt to express all that Judge Higgins meant to hockey, it is a debt that can never be repaid, suffice it to say that he personifies all that is the best in our great winter sport. The Judge's last appearance on the ice in uniform, to get back to the lighter side of things was no later than 1916 when he performed astonishingly ably at his old position of centre in a game between the East End veterans and West.
