The Regina Board of Trade
The early predecessor to the Regina Chamber of Commerce, The Regina Board of Trade
was first organized under the guidance of Dan Mowat, town mayor of Regina in 1886.
Formed by area businessmen the Board undertook a vigorous recruitment campaign
throughout Canada and overseas to attract immigrants to Saskatchewan and the Regina
area. The Board was also very active in opening up rural Saskatchewan by surveying and
building roads, as well as branch rail lines, for the purpose of increasing trade and tourism
within the Territory, and later the Province.
