Downtown Regina (1950 - 1980's)

Regina's Downtown changed considerably between
1950 and the 1980's. Buildings that had been built at
the turn of the century were being replaced by more
modern structures. Major developments during this
era included the construction of a new Public Library
in 1962, the opening of the SaskPower building in 1963,
the Globe Theatre in 1966 and the opening of a new
City Hall in 1976.

The grand hotels of old, such as the Windsor and King
Hotels were demolished. More modern facilities took
their place on Regina's skyline. These included the
Sheraton Centre in 1976 and the Ramada
Renaissance and Saskatchewan Trade and Convention
Centre in 1988.
