The Plains Health Centre

The Plains Health Centre was opened in 1974 under the
South Saskatchewan Hospital Centre Act. The Centre was
built to provide specialty services to Regina hospitals and
to train students of the University of Saskatchewan's College
of Medicine. The facility operated as a hospital serving
Regina and the people of Southern Saskatchewan until
November 1998. In 1998 the hospital was formally closed,
with its services consolidated to two of Regina's more
mature hospitals. These were the Pasqua Hospital and
The Regina General Hospital both built and opened in the
early 1900's.

On March 31, 1998, Saskatchewan's Minister of
Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training, Joanne
Crawford announced that the former health centre would
continue to serve the people of Regina, and Saskatchewan,
through its conversion to a Provincial Training Centre - The
Wascana Campus of Saskatchewan's Institute for Applied
Technology (SIAST).
