Air Pollution

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is invisible, but it has a very bad smell. It is very irritating to your lungs, and it can cause headaches, dizziness, rashes, throwing up, and irritation to your eyes.

Formaldehyde is in many household products, but it comes mainly from new carpeting, upholstery and drapes. Some house insulation can also contain formaldehyde. Mobile homes are especially bad for having high levels of formaldehyde in the air.

The best way to avoid getting sick from formaldehyde is to always make sure there is plenty of ventilation in your house whenever new carpets or drapes are being put in. If you start to feel sick, you should go outside for a while until you feel better.
