Air Pollution

Microbes & Molds

You can't see them, but there are always viruses, molds, and bacteria in the air we breathe. They can cause all kinds of illnesses, like the flu or the common cold, and can also set off allergies or asthma. There are also many more serious illnesses that you can get through the air, and you should know how to protect yourself.

The major sources for microbes and molds are pets, plants, and insects. Air conditioners, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air filters are also places where microbes and molds can collect. The bathroom and damp places in your basement are both places where mold likes to live, so they have to be cleaned often. The best defense you have against mold and microbes is to make sure to keep your house clean, and always make sure there is plenty of ventilation in your home.

You may not know it, but there are tiny bugs called dust mites that live in your house. They're so tiny, you can't even see them without a microscope! The dust mites live in furniture, carpets, and your bed. They eat the dead skin that is constantly coming off your body.

Some people are allergic to dust mites, so it's important to always keep your sheets clean, and vacuum your furniture and carpets often
