Conclusion
title

Eventhough the English claimed victory, the French gained honor from their failure. For 17 days they were able to hold back five war ships containing 256 guns, they prevented the enemy from landing and obtaining any of their ships, and they did not give up until the bitter end.

"The Battle of the Restigouche was more than just a military episode in the War of Conquest: its outcome dashed the hope of relief in New France."2

Had the French fleet and its reinforcements reached New France, the French may have been able to retain its hold over the colony, altering history as we know it.
