The learning outcomes
listed here are focused on the intermediate and the grade 10 social
studies curriculum. You can access the most recent version from the
B.C.
Ministry of Education Curriculum
Branch. Please refer back to this page for the full wording of the outcomes. In order to keep the lesson plans as compact as possible we have often only quoted the part of the outcome that is most important to the particular activity.

- locate
and record information from a variety of sources
- demonstrate
understanding of factors that influenced early European
exploration of North America
- analyse
how people interact with their environment, in the past and in the
present

- explain
ways people preserve and transmit culture
- demonstrate
understanding of why immigrants come to Canada, the challenges
they face, and their contributions to Canada

information using print, non-print and electronic sources
- describe
daily life, work, family structures and gender roles in Canada and
the world etc.

- assess the interaction between Aboriginal
people and Europeans
- identify the influence of immigration on,
and the contributions of immigrants to, the development of
Canada
- identify and describe the effects of
technological innovation on settlement and employment patterns
within regions of Canada
- construct, interpret, and use graphs,
tables, grids, scales, legends, contours, and various types of
maps
- analyse how geography influenced the
economic, historical, and cultural development of western
Canada
- identify key local and provincial
resource-development issues from 1815 to the present, considering
the concepts of stewardship and sustainability
