Anna Catherine was the second Roedde girl to meet a sad fate. Anna was just 28 years old at the time of the tragedy. She was still living with us at the Roedde House, and was working as a nurse on the staff of the St. Paul's Hospital. When another nurse asked her to exchange eight-hour shifts as a favour, she agreed. While she was on duty that horrible day in 1925, a mentally unstable attacked her thinking she was the other nurse and she died. It was very hard on the family, especially grandmother, and it spoilt Christmas from then on because Aunt Anna had been born on Christmas Day.
The name "Anna" has been avoided by Roedde family members after the tragic deaths of Grandfather and Grandmother Roedde's two daughters of that name.
