randfather had three prize St. Bernard dogs, and he was very proud of them. He entered them in dog shows. click here to see a list of dogs entered in a show. Can you find out the name of one of Grandpa's dog's by reading the list?
The only part of the house that the dogs were allowed in was Grandfather's den. He would bathe the dogs on the porch in a large tin tub.
Grandfather showed one of the dogs pulling a cart in about 1889, at the Chicago Fair, carrying one of his beautifully bound leather books.
One of the family stories I remember hearing is that a cook that once worked for the Grandmother fed the dogs chicken bones one day. Chicken bones can kill a dog because they can get caught in its throat!
