English River Chief Archie Campbell stated that the First Nation has been involved in a joint venture with Tron Power since 1995. This venture has given First Nations people the opportunity to be supervisors and journeymen welders, electricians, carpenters and pipefitters. The company currently employs 20 full-time workers in Saskatchewan and 15 overseas.

The acquisition of Tron Power will continue to provide First Nations people with career advancement opportunities with the implementation of a new training program. "I see a lot of potential in English River in training and development of our youth," said Chief Campbell.

English River youth will also benefit from the new company in other ways. Chief Campbell says the Band plans on using at least some of the profits to fund on-reserve recreational projects. These include the construction of arenas and pools.

Tron Power president Jim Elliot predicts significant growth potential for the company. In 1996, Tron Power generated sales figures of $6 million. He believes that First Nations people better understand the economic opportunities that are available in northern Saskatchewan. Elliot thinks that this understanding will prove financially rewarding for Tron Power and the English River First Nation.

Tron Power will have its headquarters in Patuanak, Saskatchewan. Frank Lai will serve as the managing director of the company. Current Tron Power president Jim Elliot and vice president Ron Hemeon will retain their position.
