Here's what the webmasters have to say! This section catches a glimpse of how the creators of this website became part of The Students Commission. A youthful point of view of the organization through their eyes.
Leslie Anne Dungog, Brampton Ontario

As I was buying my ticket for the train, which would take me to Toronto, I tried to imagine how this co-op placement would be like. Should I have worn a different shirt? I thought. Not being used to waking up at 6am in the morning, I groggily waited for the train. Half asleep and half excited, awaiting for the day to unfold. I had never heard of The Students Commission before or Tiny Giant Magazine. The bells of the train soon came ringing in my ears, I boarded the train.

Watching men and women in business suits sleeping (some with mouths open) amused me as I rode the train to the heart of Toronto, I did not know then that my fate would be similar to theirs. From that point on everything became history, my history. How many nineteen year old students have the opportunity to work in a place like this? I started out as a co-op student from January until June 2000. During that time I had attended a conference and had already applied for another. There was so much I can do and so much to learn, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Soon my communication, computer and writing skills were heightened. I was hired to be part of the staff soon after my co-op ended, did they see something more I could have contributed to the organization? Something I had somehow failed to see? I had only spent a week of my summer vacation resting, the rest of the summer and the months after I worked full time.

The Students Commission and The Tiny Giant Magazine is a youth organization. It really was! Age didn't matter, everyone was young at heart. The work environment was comfortable and relaxed. The Students Commission was full of life, even when I spent endless hours on the computer. Who would have thought I'd be using my OAC computer science notes to help me create this site. ( I emailed my teacher and thanked him for that.) In August the SR2000 conference came around, and once again I boarded a train. I was on my way to Kemptville in Ottawa. It was there a met the rest of the SC staff from the other offices in Canada.

To me this organization is about giving youth the opportunity, to reach out from their existing world. I had learned the computer skills which will help me in college, and communication/social skills that will help me in every other aspect in my life. I had acquired a sense of understanding and knowledge of the world around me and the issues youth faced ( like child poverty ). The Students Commission enables youth to be heard by others, they do this through dedication, respect, hard work and the understanding of everyone's differences. That's why this organization will only grow further into the future. They will hold much larger conferences, acquire more offices and staff and their magazine will only continue to grow in popularity. Their diversity and talent will be carried on into the future because the youth of today would not want it any other way.

Andy O'Keefe, St. John's Newfoundland

My first experience with The Students Commission was as a delegate at one of the Sharing Resources 2000 conferences. I became aware of The Students Commission through several of my friends who had attended previous Sharing Resources conferences. The conference I attended was held in October 1999 at Jouvence (just outside Montreal).

The Students Commission has meant many different things to me, some, I experienced as a delegate and others when I got the chance to be a staff member. As a delegate The Students Commission was about the chance to broaden my horizons, meet the people of my country, giving young people the power to be heard, accepting youth for who they are and giving them the chance to learn their full potential. As a staff member I have had the chance to develop this website and help youth (the other delegates) achieve all of the above. It's very satisfying to give someone something I know has meant so much to me. If I had to choose one word to describe what The Students Commission means to me it would be opportunity.

I believe that The Students Commission is fulfilling every aspect of the role that it should have. The remarkable thing about SC is that they teach youth to teach others so that many more people become affected and aware. Often times, youth from a particular community will share what they have learned at a SC conference with their community. The community may in turn continue to pass this knowledge on to others. In this way, The Students Commission makes an impact on more than just the delegates attending the conferences. In the future I think The Students Commission will keep the same role it has now, but will be able to do more within that role, as more people become aware of this organization.
