INLANDER on the Skeena River

With business booming in the Skeena Valley, a group of Hazelton business owners formed the Prince Rupert Skeena Transportation Company. This company owned and operated the INLANDER to insure delivery of their supplies to Hazelton.
After a month's delay, the INLANDER
arrived on the Skeena on June 1, 1910 under Captain Bucey's command and carried her first
load of freight up the river. She was quite homely to look at, but she proved well
suited for the fast water. She had locomotive-type engines instead of eccentric
action valves and hydraulic, rather than steam, steering gear; both improvements made her
very efficient.

The INLANDER was the
last sternwheeler to join the Skeena River trade, and the last one to leave as well.
At the end of the season in 1912, she pulled out from Hazelton, blew her whistle, and
steamed into history. Later she was pulled out at Port Essington and left to rot.
