To construct the irrigation works, each member of the district agreed to provide labour and materials in the proportion that his irrigable area bore to the total, thereby avoiding an encumberance on the title to his land. Because of this departure in the method of financing the works, many delays occurred and it was not until 1932 that water was delivered to the irrigable lands by a more-or-less inadequate supply system. In 1937, a PFRA grant of $3,000 enabled the district to enlarge its main canal and made it possible to operate successfully with very small demands on the ratepayers. Since that date the land irrigated each year has been approximately 1,200 hectares, mainly of forage.
