Shoreline Vegetation of the Lower Estuary Section
Two dominant vegetation zone line the shore of the Lower Estuary: 1) Salt Marsh; and 2) Salt meadow. The main plant communities in each zone are listed below.
Aquatic plants Salt marsh Salt meadow
Zostera marina Spartina Spartina, Ruppia maritima, Plantago maritima, Salicornia europaea, Festuca rubra, Carex paleacea, Calamagrostis canadensis, Sanguisorba canadensis

L.L.W.S.T.: Lower low water, spring tide
M.L.W.: Mean low water
M.H.W.: Mean high water
H.H.W.S.T.: Higher high water, spring tide
