Shoreline Vegetation of the Upper Estuary Section
Three zones of shoreline vegetation are found in the Upper Estuary: 1) marsh; 2) wet meadow; and 3) swamp. The main plants found in each zone are listed below.
Marsh Wet meadow Swamp
Scirpus, Sparganium eurycarpum, Sagittaria, Zizania aquatica, Eleocharis halophila, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Sium suave Spartina pectinata Salix, Alnus rugosa, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Ulmus americana

L.L.W.S.T.: Lower low water, spring tide
M.L.W.: Mean low water
H.H.W.: Mean high water
H.H.W.S.T.: Highest high water, spring tide
