The fall of Nouvelle France and its formal recognition by the Treaty of Paris and the Royal Proclamation reduced the size of today's Quebec to a small area alongside the St. Lawrence. France lost all its North American colonies except St. Pierre et Miquelon and fishing rights along the Newfoundland coast. Louisiana was ceded by France to Spain by France took it back later.
