Cartier's Three Voyages, 1534-1541
Cartier was the first European to do an extensive survey of the St. Lawrence over three voyages between 1534 and 1541. He visited the sites of Stadacona (today's Quebec City) and Hochelaga (today's Montreal). Although he did not came back to France with any significant riches, he gave a detailed description of the region and paved the way for future settlements. Source: Borins, E. (1971). New France.
