Attack on Fort Oswego, 1814

The main battlefield of the war of 1812 was the St. Lawrence and the Great Lakes. This picture shows a British successful attack on Fort Oswego at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. The control of the Great Lakes and of the St. Lawrence was very important since they were the only reliable mode of transportation through the region. Source: NAC/ANC.
