Quebec (Chateau Frontenac from Montmorency Park)

The site of the old Chateau St. Louis, destroyed by fire in 1834, is now occupied by the picturesque Chateau Frontenac, one of the noted hostelries of the world. It was named in honor of the Count de Frontenac, commander of the French forces during the attack of an English army under Sir William Phipps in 1690. The Chateau was built with a strong sense of the fitness of things and the exterior harmonizes perfectly with its quaint architectural surroundings.
