Halifax
(Provincial Building)
The
Provincial or Parliament Building is located in the
square bounded by Hollis, George, Granville and Prince
streets. It is a solid structure, of a severe style
of architecture, built of dark, gray stone, and has
been the headquarters of the lawmakers of Nova Scotia
for more than three-quarters of a century. The plain
but ample hall of the House of Assembly is in the north
part; in the opposite wing is the chamber of the Legislative
Council, containing many valuable historical portraits.
