Weeks after the spill, lobsters appeared as water temperatures rose. They were clean and normal in behavior, although one was found with oil on the ventral surface. To examine the effects of oil, experiments (Wilder, 1970) simulated the contaminations of Bunker ' C '. Some impairment of flavor did occur, but in concentrations of Bunker ' C ' higher than in Chedabucto Bay. It was concluded that the meat would not become tainted by the oil, and the oiling of the exterior could be cleaned by immersion in running sea water (Ford, 1971).

The lobster season was due to open April 1st, 1970 and it was obvious that the extent of contamination had to be verified. Only small amounts of oil were found on the lobster grounds and it was concluded that the meat and tamale of lobster's was not tainted and that any oiling of the lobster's exterior could be easily cleaned (Royal Commission, 1971).
