On February 26, 1970, a total of forty-two dead fish were found around the Janvrin's Lagoon, Janvrin's Island causeway and Janvrin's Harbor areas. Although these fish inhabit the near shore shallow water regions where heavy oiling occured, they may not necessarily have died from the oil. Examination of sculpins taken in the area where oil globules were present on the bottom, revealed that oil was present in the feces, not in the gills. It was later concluded that the inshore fish population did not suffer major mortality rates from the spill (Ford, 1971).
