Project At A Glance

In the spring of 1999, six young people began developing this web site for Canada Digital Collections program, a part of Industry Canada. We had been given 12 weeks to complete the project, from the end of May to the middle of August. To begin the project, we compiled a storyboard proposal to submit to Industry Canada for their review. The majority of our research and writing for the web site was accomplished next, as well as the HTML coding and graphic selection. After this point in the project, the skeleton was fleshed out and things were looking the way we wanted them to look. The rest of our time was spent with editorial changes, the addition of a photo gallery and other changes and additions. The Tignish CAP Site was very fortunate to have on staff several specialists in the area of Information Technology, thus the construction of the web site was accomplished painlessly- with few tears shed over computer-related frustrations! All in all, the experience was a tremendous learning opportunity for each member of the Digital Collections team- one that we will all carry into our collective future employment endeavours. We learned to not take ourselves TOO seriously, but we also did buckle down, by times, to meet various deadlines that would come up throughout the day. Taking five people and sticking them in one tiny room, with five computers, can be a dangerous thing, but somehow we all managed to put together a top-notch web site in spite of it all. (Thanks to the pop machine outside our room!) Here's wishing us all the best for the future. Cheers!

Thank You
We owe a debt of gratitude to many people for their assistance in helping us get this web page up and running. Particularly, we say a huge "thank you" to the many people who so generously donated sources of information, time and energy to the Tignish Cultural Centre's web page. Before we begin listing names, we do want to give our collective appreciation to all those who fall under the latter category. More specifically, we must acknowledge the support and assistance of a few notables, without whom this web page would most certainly be lacking and incomplete. We thank Reg Porter for his careful consideration and thoughtful comments on our rough copy. He certainly gave us food for thought. Equally, we thank Edith Eldershaw for her "endless" supply of information on just about everything. A huge thank you to Le Comite Historique Acadien Prince-Ouest Ltee. for their copies of Tignish Roots. They most certainly provided us with a great deal of information on the French-Acadian heritage in Tignish. We also thank the folks at the Tignish Cultural Centre, and in particular, we thank Bernadette Pederson for her assistance in our digital collection of the history of Tignish.

This site, as far as we are concerned, is the collective effort of many people. We want to again acknowledge everyone for the part they played in the formation and compilation of this web page. We also trust that this resource will serve the community of Tignish well and be used by many Tignishers into the new millennium, to remind them of their great heritage and culture over the last 200 years.

Alan McAlduff - Project Manager

As project manager, I was responsible for our site's concept and design, as well as dealing with other management and personnel issues. Perhaps the most taxing part of my job as project manager was dealing with personnel issues, eh Joe. Just kidding.

I must say that the group assembled for this DC project was a very special group of young people from our community who came together to create a very special community project.

Christa Costain - Web Developer

Throughout the Digital Collections Project, I worked on many tasks. Some could say I was a Jack of all Trades. Not only did I do HTML coding, I also did editing, writing, research, graphics and many other necessary tasks.

Recently, I graduated from the Business Information Technology course offered at Holland College. During this program, I profiled in Business Application Programming. Prior to this project, I created and researched information for other web pages including The Central Bedeque Cap Site page (Centratlink Cap Site) and Miminegash/St. Louis Regional Development Corporation Web page.

Ricky Doyle - Web Developer

My role as part of the Digital Collections team primarily concerned Web Development. The project has greatly helped my development, communication, and team working skills. I really enjoyed working with my fellow co-workers. Currently, I am a student at Holland College entering my second year in the Business Information Technology program where I will be specializing as a Business Programmer Analyst.

In the future I hope to pursue a career in the Information Technology field and maybe even someday be a project manager like my hero, Alan. :)

I would like to thank all of my co-workers, supervisors, etc. for giving me such a great work experience and a very fun 12 weeks.

Lori Gard - Editor/Writer

As one of the Special Project Officers, I worked principally as the editor/writer for the web page along with conducting research for the project. I feel that working on this project helped strengthen my writing/editing skills, as well as it gave me the opportunity to learn more about computer operations. I really enjoyed seeing everything come together, and I feel that we, as team members, worked extremely hard to get the web page up to our expectations. After the project is completed, I hope to pursue my chosen field of teaching. I expect there will be plenty of opportunities in my teaching career to use the skills I have acquired over the past twelve weeks. I hope you find the site useful, easy to navigate and historically correct! Happy browsing!

Joey Mokler - Web Developer

I was hired for this Digital Collections project to develop web pages and research. I am a recent graduate of the Business Information Technology course at Holland College, where I profiled in Business Application Programming.

My previous experiences include Researcher & Tour Guide at the Tignish Museum, Lab Assistant at Holland College and Community Access Program Youth Intern.

My goal is to work in the Information Technology field as a Programmer/Analyst.

I'd like to wish good luck to all my fellow co-workers in your future endeavours, and I hope Alan finds the true meaning of "Information Technology".
