President of the Halifax Centre of the RASC, Dave Lane is in charge of the Burke-Gaffney Observatory and related facilities at Saint Mary's University in downtown Halifax. In February, 1995, he was part of the team which discovered supernova SN 1995F in galaxy NGC2726. This was the first supernova discovered from Canadian soil. Dave is also famous for his Windows-based shareware desktop planetarium software Earth Centred Universe (ECU).
