3. When were the planets discovered?
The inner planets plus Jupiter and Saturn have been known since antiquity.Uranus was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel. The discovery of Neptune is credited to the English astronomer J.C. Adams and the French mathematician Leverrier. The date of Neptune's discovery is usually given as1846, although some suggest that Galileo saw it as early as 1612, after the invention of the telescope. Pluto was discovered in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh.
