7. What is a White Dwarf? After material has expanded and blown off the central core of the star, a hot, dense ball is left over. After the nuclear reactions stop, the star is incapable of resisting the gravitational attraction of the gas and the core collapses to a body of roughly the size of the Earth. The star is then referred to as a white dwarf. |
