Pte. Gussie J. Gallant
PTE. GUSSIE J. GALLANT

Pte. Gussie J. Gallant, son of Emmanuel and Gertrude Gallant, enlisted in the army on January 27, 1942.

He served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Canada, England, Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany.

He was discharged on February 2, 1946.

Pte. Antoine Hermas Gallant, son of Sylvain and Mathilda Gallant, enlisted in the West Nova Scotia Regiment in the fall of 1943.

He was killed in Italy on August 31, 1944. A more detailed write-up is included with his record.

PTE. ANTOINE HERMAS GALLANT


Antoine Hermas Gallant was born in Cape Egmont, P.E.I., the son of Sylvain and Matilda Gallant, on December 24, 1923. Hermas attended school in Cape Egmont and enlisted in the West Nova Scotia Regiment in the fall of 1943 at the age of 19. He took his basic training at Aldershot, Nova Scotia. He was transferred overseas during the early part of the winter of 1944 and in February of that year was in England. From England he went on active duty in Italy, arriving there at Easter of 1944, landing somewhere south of Rome. He took part in the fighting for Rome which fell to the Allies on June 6, 1944. One of his letters on July 2, 1944 indicated that Hermas visited St. Peters Cathedral in Rome sometime in June of 1944. He continued to participate in the advance towards the north of Italy and in early August 1944 the Allies captured Florence which is about 160 miles north of Rome. On August 15, 1944, the Allied attack on the Adriatic sector began. It was in this battle that Pte. Hermas Gallant was killed on August 31, 1944, near the town of Pesaro, which is on the Adriatic Sea. He was 20 years and 8 months old when he died. He is buried in the Montecchio War Cemetery, which is near Pesaro in Italy.


Pte. John Cyrus Gallant
PTE. JOHN CYRUS GALLANT

Pte. John Cyrus Gallant, son of Glorice and Basélice Gallant, enlisted in the army on October 22, 1942. He served in the Infantry in Canada for two years, went overseas for five months, attached to the British Army. He then returned to Canada for the remainder of his service.

He was discharged on April 16, 1946.


Gunner John Peter Gallant, son of Jean-Pierre Gallant and Obéline Arsenault, enlisted in the army on January 11, 1943. He served four months in Canada at 62 C.A. (B) T.C., then served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.

He was awarded the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, France/Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.

He was discharged on February 12, 1946.

PTE. JOHN RUSSELL GALLANT

Pte. John Russell Gallant, son of Linus Gallant and Agnes MacDonald, enlisted in the Canadian Army on August 22, 1942.

He served in Canada until his discharge on May 16, 1946.


Pilot Officer Joseph Alfred Gallant, son of Anicet and Béatrice Gallant, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Moncton on September 10, 1940 as AC 2 (Aircraftsman Second Class). From 1940 to 1945, he had many postings in air force bases and schools in the provinces of Ont., N.B., and Québec. He took many air force-related courses including: security, radar, service police, navigation, bombing and gunnery, instrument flying, etc.

He graduated as Wireless Operator with the rank of Pilot Officer in January, 1945.

He was discharged on August 26, 1945 at H.M.C.S. Strathcona, Halifax, N.S. He was promoted to Flying Officer six months after his original appointment to commissioned rank in Class E of the Reserve.

CPL. .JOSEPH FÉLIX GALLANT


Cpl. Joseph Félix Gallant, son of Prospère Gallant and Marguerite Bernard, enlisted in the Canadian Army in Charlottetown (CABTC #62) on June 5, 1941.

He served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps.

After taking three cooking courses, he worked as a cook for the enlisted personnel.

He was discharged on November 17, 1945.

He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.


Cpl. Joseph Frank (X .O.) Gallant, son of Xavier Gallant and Émilienne Arsenault, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939.

He served in the Paymasters' Corps in the staff account section, in Scoudouc and Vancouver.

He was discharged in September, 1946 serving six months in England from March, 1946, and six years total service.

Pte. Joseph Henry Gallant
PTE. JOSEPH HENRY GALLANT


Pte. Joseph Henry Gallant, son of Bélonie Gallant and Justine Arsenault, enlisted in the army on April 21, 1942.

After his training at Beach Grove Inn and Halifax, he served in England with the 2nd Canadian Corps H.Q. Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in July, 1942. In July, 1944, he served in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada in December, 1945.

He was discharged on January 14, 1946.

Pte. Joseph Joachim Gallant, son of Sylvain B. and Émérentienne Gallant, enlisted in the army on February 4, 1942.

He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and was discharged on September 14, 1946.
