John Murphy - Nova Scotia

At the time of his appointment to the Council, John Murphy was past Executive Director of the Fundy Mental Health Centre in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and Administrator and Psychiatric Social Worker at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia. He was also a Lecturer at Acadia University in the department of sociology. He was a member of Parliament for Annapolis Valley-Hants from 1993 to 1997.

Mr. Murphy was Chairperson of the National Council of Welfare from 1998 to 2007. Some of the many reports released by the Council during his tenure include Solving Poverty: Four Cornerstones of a Workable National Strategy for Canada and The Cost of Poverty.
