STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER

Prime Minister Jean Chrétien issued this statement this evening on the news
that the Honourable John Munro has passed away:
"It was with deep sadness that I learned of the death of a friend and
former colleague, the Honourable John Munro. John was a devoted and caring
politician and he will be greatly missed.
A former minister in the Liberal government, John made his mark in the
numerous cabinet posts that he held, and also as the long-standing Member of
Parliament for Hamilton East. He was a dedicated advocate to his constituents, a
team player to his colleagues, and a grassroots politician at its best. John was
a great public servant, and also a fine man who will be remembered for his
warmth and his generosity of spirit.
Aline joins me in extending our sincerest condolences to Mrs. Munro, her
children, and their many, many friends."
